- RFs mean post doctoral fellow, who works for research projects, in collaboration with professors, and they get paid.

- TAs are PhD students in most cases while RAs are usally recruited by professors for their research projects on the basis of contracts.
- TAs have to work such as in-class tutorials and get paid.
PhD students
- Most of PhD students come from mainlnad China after finishing their undergraduate, mostly at Nanjing University, Renmin University of China, Fudan University, etc.
- The others, although not many, are from India, South Korea, etc.
Facilities furnished
- For RFs, instructors, and TAs / RAs, one room of COM2 building is usually provided for two persons. For instructors and TAs, individual printers are furnished while RFs usually uses a networked, shared printer, with a monthly quota.
- PhD students are assigned to one desk in a lab, located in COM2 building, after their supervisors are designated after their first semester.
School residence
- Professors who are not Singaporean can live in school residence (e.g., Kent Vale) while RFs are not allowed.

- PhD students can live in one of on-compus dormitories. An odd thing is that not all rooms are furnished with air-conditioning and, if used, it is charged.

Community activities
